Live shows put a new spin on the best records. Whether it's improvisations brought about by broken strings, banter between songs, or a medley of unexpected (and hilarious) covers, the live setting shows off a side of the artist colored by imperfections, innovations, and quirks invisible to the record listener. On Jurassic Pop's newest cassette, Montreal fuzz-pop whiz Mac DeMarco stopped by Russian Recording in Bloomington, Indiana, to strut his weird and wonderful pop rock for a mostly piss drunk audience. Known for lacing beautiful, jangling guitars with subversive (maybe even sinister) wit, DeMarco shied from nothing during this live set. His onstage persona demonstrates a pretty severe case study in multiple personality syndrome. He flip flops between heartfelt and sincere to downright sleazy from one song to the next. He demonstrates more gag voices than a Mike Myers film. Playing favorites from his celebrated EP, Rock and Roll Night Club, and recent hit album, 2, and a string of absurd covers that blur the line between homage and irreverence, DeMarco and his band deliver an exciting set that's sure to freak out the neighborhood.

All Delighted People EP

It may not be a full-fledged LP, but All Delighted People is probably my favourite of Sufjan's works. Without an overaching album theme to tie the songs together, it felt like Sufjan was free to experiment on each track and give them their own unique sound. And because of that (and Sufjan's talent), every track on there is a standout track.
