about

Come a little closer - this band has got a secret to tell. They've been rooting through your father's basement, and they've come up with something fresh. They know twang is the new soul, alternative is the new country, and Too Close Is the New Too Far. On their debut LP, Indiana natives Faux Paw craft a careful balance of throwback and innovation. They've clearly done their homework, evoking the time-honored tropes of roots rock and alt country. But the result is a bright, new invention of rusty, soulful pop. These are analog sounds from our digital age. Throughout the album, Garrett Ney's lyrics boast a poetic and confessional confusion surrounding intimacy, an idea captured in the album's title. But don't confuse that unmistakeable mark of youth for inexperience; Faux Paw have clearly fostered a careful command over their instruments. Their masterful rhythm section supports a woven blanket of twin lead guitars and warm vocal harmonies. This setup has the potential to come unraveled, but Faux Paw bring it in close with the secret they came to tell: Too Close Is the New Too Far, and the secret is out. [Written by Eric Taylor]
